Alia Bhatt and Sharvari's upcoming spy thriller, Alpha, from YRF Spy Universe, has been certified by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) ahead of its release. Directed by Shiv Rawail, the film has received a UA 16+ rating by the censor board. Scheduled to hit theatres worldwide this Friday, July 3, Alpha has sparked conversations across social media platforms with its visuals so far, which present Alia in a full-fledged action avatar for the first time.
With the UA 16+ certificate, Alpha has also locked its runtime, which was clocked in at 140 minutes (2 hours and 20 minutes). Also starring Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor, rounding up the cast, the espionage actioner is now ready to arrive on the big screen.
The censor certificate on the CBFC website also reveals the official plot summary of the film. The certificate hints at Alia Bhatt's character, Sita, being a fierce addition to YRF spy characters after Tiger, Kabir, and Pathaan. The plot summary of the film read, "Driven by revenge, a young girl destroys anyone in her path until her journey uncovers the hidden truths of her own life. She is bold, cold, and ready to cross any line, hurting anyone who stands in her way."
Alpha marks the 4th standalone film in the YRF Spy Universe and seventh overall, following Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai, War, Pathaan, Tiger 3, and War 2. The film will introduce Alia Bhatt as the first female spy of the spyverse, which includes the likes of Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Hrithik Roshan.
The film is an important project for YRF, Aditya Chopra and Alia Bhatt. Following the underwhelming response to the last two spyverse movies, namely, Tiger 3 and War 2, the banner hopes to bounce back strongly with Alpha and revive the fabled universe.
On the other hand, for Alia, after the failure of Jigra, the actress would be looking to score a success before she moves on to Love and War alongside her husband, Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal, helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
