Actor-director Raju Kher has recently talked about one of the most challenging phases of his life, recalling how a television project went wrong, leaving him in financial distress, out of work and without a stable home. While speaking to Siddharth Kannan, Raju recounted how he ended up having no funds after investing in a television. He had sold his house and believed the new venture would give him a fresh beginning.

Raju Kher recalls his financial struggles

Raju revealed that he was directing a television programme titled Life Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega for a new channel. "There was a time when I was going through a bad phase. I had sold my house because a new channel was coming, so I had bought a flat elsewhere. A new channel was going to launch, and many people were making pilots; agreements were already signed. I also made a programme, Life Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega," he said.

However, things took a drastic turn when the channel allegedly shut down. "Suddenly, I got to know that the channel had disappeared. I had invested the money that I got from selling the flat in that programme. I thought that I had a first-class life, a 4-BHK house, everything set for the family. And then, the channel disappeared, and no one knew what had happened... There was just a lock on their door," he recalled.

With no savings and the project gone, Raju said he also found himself under stress to pay rent. At that difficult time, he expected brother Anupam to support him financially. "I also felt the pressure to pay the rent. I had no one else; I could only talk to my brother, and I thought he would help me. But at that time, he had also stopped working. The reason was that he didn't want to do any of those weird films; he wanted substantial roles," Raju said.

He admitted that his brother could have helped him more. "So, I felt that my brother did not help me out. 'He could have done so,' that was my thought at that time," he said.

Raju Kher later understood his brother's personal struggles

However, Raju's perspective changed later. He came across an interview in which Anupam talked about his personal regret of not having a child of his own. It made him realise that his brother, too, had his own personal difficulties that were not publicly visible. He felt that Anupam had everything because of his success. Later, he realised he had taken him for granted without understanding the things he had been dealing with himself.

Anupam is married to actor Kirron Kher. Kirron already had a son, Sikander Kher, from her first marriage to businessman Gautam Berry. Anupam has often spoken about his close relationship with Sikander as his own child.

Raju Kher has featured in both films and television as an actor and director. His notable acting projects include Ghulam, Jungle, Om Jai Jagadish, Shootout at Wadala, Krrish 3, Main Tera Hero, Uunchai and Patna Shuklla. He also helmed television shows, including the 1999 serial Sanskaar, as well as Manzile, Abhilasha and Ret Ka Dariya
