The devastating floods in Assam have prompted several celebrities to step forward and extend support to those affected. Randeep Hooda was recently seen serving food, offering prayers, and providing relief aid to flood-hit communities. Now, Bhumi Pednekar has also joined the relief efforts, travelling to Assam to lend a helping hand to those battling the crisis.
The actor also shared videos from her relief efforts in Assam. Bhumi travelled to the flood-hit state with the Bharat Disaster Relief Foundation (BDRF) to extend support to those affected. In one of the clips, she can be seen wading through knee-deep water to reach a hut and provide aid to the residents. Another video shows her distributing relief material among villagers, while a third captures Bhumi interacting with locals and sharing some light-hearted moments with them.
The caption of the clip read, "When compassion meets action, hope reaches farther. Thank you, Bhumi, for standing with the people of Assam."
Bhumi also shared a photo of herself with flood-affected villagers and wrote, "Every flooded village reminds us that recovery doesn't begin when the rain stops, but when the help arrives." In another video, Bhumi is seen arriving at a house surrounded by water in a boat. She also highlighted the harsh reality in Assam, mentioning that "though water has receded in some areas, many villages remain accessible only by boat."
The flood situation in Assam remained critical on Friday, with the death toll rising to 97 and over 1.68 lakh people affected across 15 districts. Relief operations continue, while railway connectivity through Sivasagar has been restored after nearly two weeks, allowing limited train services to resume.
The actress recently faced severe backlash for her video criticising the language of the protestors towards PM Narendra Modi during the student protests last month. The actress condemned the "insulting" language, saying that it was not Indian culture and not how we speak to elders. However, netizens slammed her for not raising her voice against the violence against students. She later uploaded another video, defending the young girl who allegedly faced death and rape threats for reportedly abusing PM Modi during the protests.
