Ramayana, one of the most awaited films, is gearing up for its theatrical release, but its second instalment, which was expected to hit screens next year, may face a delay. A few days ago, Sandeep Reddy Vanga announced the release date of Spirit, and a report now claims Ranbir Kapoor may have tipped off the filmmaker about the delay, prompting him to lock Diwali 2027 for his Prabhas-starrer. Notably, Ranbir and Vanga collaborated on Animal, which went on to become a box-office hit.
According to a report in Bollywood Hungama, "Ranbir Kapoor was aware that there could be a delay in the release of Ramayana 2. When Ranbir was officially informed of the delay, he took no time to pick up the call on his dear friend, Sandeep Reddy Vanga."
"The minute Vanga got the news of the delay, he made a quick decision to arrive on Diwali 2027 before anyone else took the date. Bhushan Kumar was in agreement, as he always is with Vanga, and the two people announced the date," the source further told the portal.
Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga announced the revised release date on October 18 through a post on X, sharing a new poster featuring Prabhas. The filmmaker confirmed that Spirit will release worldwide on October 29, 2027.
Reports are also rife that Part 2 will hit screens in Diwali 2028. While the first part is set to release in a couple of days, the second instalment needs more shooting time. As everyone knows, the real scale of Ramayana is in the second part, where the "Yudh" actually unfolds. The action design took longer than expected, as Namit Malhotra and Nitesh Tiwari wanted to come up with the most original action set pieces in world cinema. Namit is confident that Ramayana will leave a global mark and has, therefore, already decided to up the scale of Ramayana 2.
The new release date for the second instalment is expected to be announced in the post-credit scene of Ramayana: Part 1.
Ramayana: Part 1 is set to hit theatres worldwide on November 5, 2026. The film has been shot using IMAX cameras, and advance bookings are currently open.
The Nitesh Tiwari directorial has a runtime of 3 hours and 15 minutes. The ensemble cast of the film includes Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, Sai Pallavi, Ravi Dubey, Vivek Oberoi, Rakul Preet Singh, Lara Dutta, Kajal Aggarwal and others in key roles.
