We wouldn't have been more surprised if we'd heard that Bappida was cutting down on his gold or that Anu Malik was to not air his opinions. But yes, Anup Jalota has just recorded a song in English. And the ghazal king can't fathom why we're so stunned by the news. He opens up to CS:
India's pride
All this while I was talking in English, now I've also sung in the language. I've recorded a Hinglish song with Preety Bhalla for Independence Day called Tomorrow World Will Be Known As India.
It's about us wanting to give peace a chance and work towards a brighter tomorrow. I didn't feel uncomfortable at all and I can't understand why the rest of you are surprised to hear this news. And it isn't some Michael Jackson kind of pop song either, it's just a patriotic poetic number.
Westward bound
I've always had an ear for international music. I love the Beatles, Phil Collins, Cliff Richards and of course MJ. I'm glad that I got a chance to try my hand at English vocals too. This might just be the start of a trend. I'm likely to sing another track called Boys Are Boys with Sunidhi (Chauhan) in an upcoming film that I'm producing.

And I'm going to be experimenting with genres too. On September 12, I'm part of a fusion concert with maestros Zakir Hussain and Hariprasad Chaurasia. Last month, I was felicitated by the House of Commons; it was a great honour. I feel that singing in English is only going to increase my global reach.u00a0
