Lisa Ray prepares for stem cell transplant

Model-turned-actress Lisa Ray is preparing for a stem cell transplant in Toronto next week to treat her rare cancer.

According to the actress, the procedure involves releasing her own stem cells into her blood, collecting them and then freezing them.

The actress had been diagnosed with Multiple Myelomain June. Lisa began her first cycle of treatment in July in Toronto.

Multiple Myelomai also known as Kahler's disease, is a cancer of the bone marrow. Doctors are still unable to guarantee any patient that they can make a full recovery from this rare form of cancer.

Inspite of her illness, Lisa was seen riding up in cycle-rickshaws for the premiere of Dilip Mehta's "Cooking With Stella" at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.

The actress has also agreed to team up with Sanjay Dutt for a biopice on Charles Sobhraj.
