Madhur Bhandarkar to direct film based on the life of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee titled Syama The Missing Chapter

Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar is set to direct a film on Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee, titled Syama - The Missing Chapter.

Mookerjee was an Indian academic, politician, and the founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh (BJS), the ideological predecessor of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The film will explore his ideological differences with the government, his decision to resign from the cabinet, and his founding of the BJS in 1951.

Bhandarkar said exploring the life of Mookerjee as a filmmaker has been "challenging and demanding".

"With Syama, I hope to bring an important chapter of India's history to the screen with honesty, sensitivity, and a fresh perspective," he said in a statement.
