Amitabh, 3 idiots among the winners
The 57th National Film Awards that reward cinematic talent were announced this evening in New Delhi. Among the winners from B-town were Amitabh Bachchan, who won the Best Actor award for his performance in Paa, while his son Abhishek-starrer Delhi-6 won the the award for Best Film with Social Message. Vidhu Vinod Chopra's 3 idiots won the Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment award. Paa also won the Best Feature Film (Hindi) award. Shyam Benegal's Well Done Abba won Best Film on Social Issues. Farooque Shaikh won the Best Supporting Actor award for Lahore. Arundhati Naag won the Best Supporting Actress award for Paa.
In music, Swanand Kirkire bagged the Best Lyricist award for his song Behti Hawa Sa Tha Woh (3 Idiots) while Amit Trivedi won Best Music Director for Dev.D. Niranjana Sarkar won Best Female Playback Singer for Housefull. Resul Pookutty won the Best Sound Engineer award.
Rituparno Ghosh won the National Award for Best Director for the film Abohoman. Its female lead Ananya Chatterjee won the Best Actress award.
Malayalam film Kutty Srank was adjudged Best Film, while Natrang won the Best Feature Film (Marathi) award.
