Meet the original Punjabi munda of Bollywood music. Singer and actor Gurdas Maan who first set the Punjabi music trend rolling is now busy promoting his upcoming film Sukhmani. CS talks to him about his music and film preferences:u00a0

I have been busy doing shows in the North these days. When I'm on stage, I can perform for three to four hours non-stop. I prefer doing stage shows to films, anytime. In films, every director wants to call the shots by telling the singer how to perform. On stage, I have full freedom to do what I like.
Tadka laga keu00a0
While I can sing all kinds of songs, I stay away from Punjabi Tadka. My music reflects our culture and tradition and that's why people take me as a serious singer. I listen to pop Punjabi songs and also appreciate new talent, but I can't be one of them.
In the character's shoes
The kinds of role I play in my reel life are somewhere connected to my real life. For instance, becoming a soldier was my childhood dream. So when I got a chance to play the character, I related to it. Playing roles that are close to my heart isn't difficult for me.

Shooting for Sukhmani was a memorable experience. We were shooting in Srinagar where it was really cold and we all had a sense of fear that is associated with the place. That's when a little kid walked up to me and said that we needn't be afraid. He told me to spread the word that Srinagar was safe and beautiful and people shouldn't hesitate to visit the place. Those words from a small kid touched my heart deeply.
On the right note
Doing Mile Sur Mera Tumhara in the Golden Temple was a magical feeling. I am not a very religious person but I respect all religions. So, representing Punjab in front of the Golden Temple was like the most memorable experience. When I was approached for the new version of the film, I was very excited to take it up. And the makers of the film told me that they'd wanted to take me in the previous one too. My day was made when I heard that!
