"If we don't celebrate in real, we surrogate," says actress Apara Mehta. Busy with her comedy soap and theatre commitments, Apara talks to CS about juggling TV and theatre:
Training ground
Not just a comedy
I have been consistently doing comedy onstage in Gujarati. But I have always been selective, especially when it comes to comedy. A comedy, be it a play or serial script has to be written well. If it is not, then there is no point in doing it. If the characterisation is not proper then acting for that role is pointless.
Role on
I have been in the television industry for long now. I played Savita, a possessive mother in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and I also did a cameo in Saat Phere where I played a comic vamp. When Sajan Re Jhoot Mat Bolo came to me, I was pleasantly suprised. After reading the script I started laughing. It is so well written and challenging that I had to accept the role. So you see, I don't like to stick to just one genre of acting. Now if anything different and interesting comes my way, I will do that too.u00a0

Women all along
Multi-tasking is my middle name, as I do theatre as well as television. And strongly believe that in today's world, a woman should be financially able and independent. She should retain her identity without shame.
