Rakul Preet Singh has broken her silence after being named in reports about Income Tax searches. On Monday, the actress issued a statement on social media, clarifying that she has no connection with the ongoing Income Tax department search into alleged irregularities linked to overseas film funds. The statement comes days after tax officials reportedly conducted searches at 12 premises concerning individuals and entities linked to film producer Vashu Bhagnani and Panorama Studios.
In a note shared on Instagram on Monday, October 5, Rakul said she is shattered by what she described as a growing trend among self-styled online reporters and some mainstream media journalists to amplify unverified reports without checking facts. She wrote, "It's heartbreaking to see that there's a growing trend amongst the self-styled online reporters and some mainstream media journalists to sensationalise the news without verifying facts."
"Let's therefore set the record straight once and for all. The search was not of me. Let it be known that I am from the Armed Forces background and had no Godfather in the Industry. I have come up through sheer hard work and, as a responsible, law-abiding citizen, have been paying my due taxes since the age of 20 years," Rakul added.
She further clarified that she has no involvement in any illegal foreign remittance, either in her personal capacity or on behalf of any production house. She also denied owning any benami property for anyone in India or abroad. "I am not involved in any kind of illegal Foreign remittance in a personal capacity or on behalf of any Production house. I would also add here that I do not hold any Benami property on behalf of anyone anywhere in the country or abroad. Neither has ANYONE ever gifted me any property at any time, nor do I accept such expensive gifts as a principle," Rakul said.
She further urged publication to retract "false, malicious and speculative reports" about her and clarify the facts. Rakul also acknowledged that media organisations have commercial pressure but stressed that such demanding jobs should not come at the cost of facts, someone's reputation and livelihood.
"I understand that everyone running a media business, however big, has their own commercial pressures. But it cannot come at the cost of the facts. And certainly not at the cost of someone's reputation and livelihood," she concluded.
On the work front, Rakul Preet Singh will next essay Surpanakha in Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana. Part 1 of the epic, also starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman is set to release on Diwali 2026.
