While it was known that the first part of Ramayana is scheduled to hit the screens during Diwali 2026, the exact date of release was still under wraps. Now, the makers have finally announced the release date of the much-awaited magnum opus. On Wednesday, Sony Pictures took to its official X handle to reveal the English trailer of Nitesh Tiwari's directorial, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash in the lead, and announced the release date.
Ramayana is all set to hit theatres on November 6, 2026. This implies that the film will be released globally two days before Diwali.
Notably, Ramayana, produced by Namit Malhotra, will be released in two parts. While the first part is releasing on November 6, 2026, the second part will arrive in theatres around Diwali 2027. So far, the release date for Ramayana: Part 2 has not been announced.
The makers released the grand Ramayana trailer of the film in July 2026, which opens to Yash's Ravana proclaiming himself the ruler of all three worlds. When he unleashes chaos and destruction in the world, Lord Vishnu takes the avatar of Ram to protect the earth. The trailer also introduces Ranbir Kapoor's Ram, who safeguards his people and marries Sita, played by Sai Pallavi.
The trailer also gives a glimpse into Ram and Sita's 14 years of vanvaas, accompanied by Lakshman, portrayed by Ravie Dubey. The abduction of Sita by Ravana follows, turning it into an epic battle.
Interestingly, the release date of Ramayana also coincides with the birthday of Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt's daughter, Raha. Ranbir and Alia, who tied the knot on April 14, 2022, welcomed their daughter Raha on November 6, 2022.
Ranbir has on multiple occasions spoken about how the film is special for him and his daughter. During a fan Q&A session at the San Diego Comic Con 2026, Ranbir shared that one of the biggest reasons he is looking forward to the film's release was his daughter. According to The Times of India, Ranbir said, "I'm very excited to take my daughter to the film. It is going to be her first film on the big screen."
Similarly, speaking to Top Film Magazine earlier, Ranbir had shared, "It was such a sweet coincidence in my life that Raha made me a better person and Ramayana wanted me to be a better person for Raha.
