The much-awaited trailer of Ramayana was set to make its debut on July 24 and take the film to the global stage at San Diego Comic-Con 2026. Hours before its scheduled unveiling, producer Namit Malhotra announced that the launch has been postponed. The decision comes after the makers joined hands with Sony Pictures Entertainment for the film's global release.
Ramayana producer Namit Malhotra shared a statement that read, "Today is a very special moment for our Ramayana. My dream of taking Ramayana to the world is now a reality with our partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment. In light of the above, we will be launching our trailer globally at a later date."
"In over 100 years of Indian cinema, this will become a moment of great pride, where Ramayana will be shown to the entire world like any major global Hollywood film. This is special as it opens the door for people around the world to discover the richness of our culture and our stories with renewed pride and enthusiasm," he added.
He concluded the note by expressing gratitude. "I thank all the fans and believers of Ramayana for helping make this happen. The youth of our country are our future. Let's all do our best to protect that future."
Fans took to the comments section to express their disappointment over the delay. A user wrote, "This guy is playing with emotions nowâ¦. Dear @iamnamitmalhotra sir if you can't take a stand on your words then please don't promise..You say everytime it's an emotion for Indian but now????" While another commented, "We were with you....but I don't trust you anymore. From Ram navmi to today... totally disappointed." While one of the netizen expressed, "I'm awaiting for it since whole week but You have killed all the excitement, now it's over from my side."
The trailer of Ramayana was recently unveiled at private screenings in Delhi and Mumbai. It was set to be showcased at San Diego Comic-Con 2026. Ranbir, Yash, and others have jetted off to the United States for the grand event. Within hours of the screening, a one-minute, 28-second excerpt from the trailer was circulating across social media platforms, leading the makers to launch an aggressive takedown.
After its showcase at San Diego Comic-Con, mid-day reported that the Ramayana: Part 1 makers are reportedly planning a special preview and press conference at the Toronto International Film Festival in September to boost the film's global campaign.
Earlier this year, in April, the team unveiled an introductory teaser, Rama, to coincide with Hanuman Jayanti. Running for 2 minutes and 38 seconds, the teaser offered the first glimpse of Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama.
Ramayana boasts an ensemble cast led by Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, Sai Pallavi, Lara Dutta, Ravie Dubey, Sunny Deol, Rakul Preet Singh, and many others.
