After the success of witty con flicks like Mithya and Oye Lucky, there has been a steady flow of films wanting to replicate their appeal.

What's it about: After the success of witty con flicks like Mithya and Oye Lucky, there has been a steady flow of films wanting to replicate their appeal. A few weeks back, we had Dhoondte Reh Jaoge, 99 and now Sankat City which attempts to fit in the same genre but doesn't quite make a space for itself.

A story of confusions and silly situations, the film is about a bunch of small-time thugs (Kay Kay, Dilip Prabhawal-kar), who in the attempt of stealing a car and selling it off, land themselves in a big soup. The two along with Mona (Rimi Sen) are trapped in a nasty web of double- crossing set by a recovery agent Faujdaar (Anupam Kher) and his cronies.

Along the way, they meet a dozen-odd characters and fumble and bumble, running around in circles finally nearing a climax that's bound to make you reach for the nearest Aspirin.u00a0

What's hot: Once again, Menon proves that he's an actor who can justify and excel even in the most ridiculous of plots and settings. He effortlessly tackles his role with ease and attempts to make even the most banal situations lively. There are a couple of moments that make you chuckle, but they are too few and far between.

What's not: The biggest culprit is the script and it's attempt to come across as cool and new-age. One can't really dish out a lackadaisical plot with contrived characters and give it a different treatment and try and seem 'hatke'.

A case of too many cooks spoiling the broth, the film is loaded with unnecessary characters and supporting actors that do nothing but burden the weak spine of the film with their idiosyncrasies. Barring Kay Kay and Anupam Kher's characters, none of the others that orbit around these two for around two hours make any effect on the viewer.

Often jarring and loud, the film takes enough U-turns in its plot to leave you dizzy. The background music and the songs do nothing but make the journey even more painful. But nothing compares to the torture of watching a half-naked Virendra Saxena play a gay Swamiji getting a sponge bath from another semi-clad man! Pure horror!

What to do: Watching this movie will bestow real sankat on you if you venture near it.
