Palak Muchhal is no longer only interpreting someone else's melody. With her new single, Aayi Teri Baat Mein, she has served as the lyricist, composer, and singer while also featuring in its video.

In the Hindi film industry, music composition continues to be largely male-dominated. As she takes the creative leap, Muchhal believes the decision wasn't born out of a desire to change perceptions. "This song happened organically. I have always been deeply involved with music beyond just singing, but Aayi Teri Baat Mein felt special because I have written, composed, sung it, and danced in it. So, there are many firsts," she said.

The difference between being a playback singer and creating a song from scratch is something she became particularly conscious of during the process. "As a singer, my responsibility is to understand the composer's and filmmaker's vision and bring my own emotion to it. With Aayi Teri Baat Mein, the journey started from within me," she explained, before adding, "The words, the melody, the way I wanted to sing it, and eventually the way I wanted to present myself visually, I could see the song's entire world coming together. That kind of creative ownership is both liberating and demanding because every decision feels personal. But that also makes the process fulfilling. It marks the beginning of giving myself more creative freedom."

Aayi Teri Baat Mein is a vibrant, romantic number told from a woman's perspective. If composition represented a new creative territory, dancing in the video was a new challenge. "Singing is home for me. Writing and composing are intimate processes, but dancing pushed me furthest outside my comfort zone. I have performed on stage all my life, but choreography requires another kind of precision and body language. Eventually, it became one of the most enjoyable parts of the experience."
