Coat unquote
My family is obsessed with London and the northern parts of England. When I landed in London last January, it was freezing; apparently it was the chilliest winter ever in the country.

And my lips and nails go blue in extreme cold, so I needed something to keep me warm urgently. I headed to a high-end store and bought myself this woollen red coat.

I chose red because I wanted something brighter as winters can become depressing with no sun. This red coat, besides being bright, is fun, young and smart. And in England, everyone's dressed so smartly. The brownish green coat is also a recent buy meant for the outdoors.

We, as a family, often go on wildlife or safari treks and wearing green or beige is compulsory. I bought it with the intention of wearing it either in cooler climes or in wet weather, which is what Mumbai has for four months.

Otherwise in Mumbai, you can only bring out your winterwear in the closed confines of your office where it's freezing, thanks to the AC.

The last layer
Winters are all about layers. I love layering myself in natural fabrics like cottons and wools and then pullover a cashmere jacket. In Delhi, I'd wrap myself in soft sweaters and mufflers.

There's so much that you can do with scarvesu00a0-- they serve as fun accessories. But the best part about dressing up in a cold climate is being able to wear boots. And since I walk a lot when I'm in foreign lands like England or Switzerland, I prefer wearing boots that have flat or low heels. Moreover, they are best to keep your feet warm and look smart on almost any outfit.u00a0

Warm memories
I love going to Pataudi in winters. It is so cold there that you'll find the entire family gathered around a low dining table that has a low coal fire underneath, around which we tuck our feet. I love going there because it brings back lovely memories from my childhood.

My brother loves planning parties and even as kids, he'd plan scavenger hunts and treasure hunts. He'd make Christmas special too by stuffing big cushion covers with countless gifts. But what I truly want to do is go to a place where it snows and maybe try my hand at skiing or get into a snow fight.

This year, I'll hopefully be in either San Francisco or in one of LA's amusement parks on New Year's Eve, enjoying the cold and getting warmed by the festive spirit.
