Swara Bhasker visits Sonam Wangchuk at Jantar Mantar amid his hunger strike, thanks CJP's Abhijeet Dipke

Activist Sonam Wangchuk has been in the headlines ever since he started his hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi along with the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) 17 days ago. Calls for Wangchuk to call off his hunger strike have increased after the CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke shared an update on Sonam's health on social media. Dipke shared that Wangchuk has started losing muscle mass and is in immense pain.

Amid the issue, several actors extended their support to Wangchuk, urging him to call off his strike and sharing their views on the hunger strike on social media. Meanwhile, Swara Bhasker was seen visiting the 59-year-old at Jantar Mantar on Tuesday. During her visit, she met both Sonam and Abhijeet.

CJP's official Instagram account shared a post revealing that Swara visited the site. They shared a couple of pictures showing Swara at the protest site. "Unapologetic & fearless actress Swara Bhaskar joins the protest at Jantar Mantar!" read the caption.

Swara later shared the post on her Instagram Stories and thanked Abhijeet, saying, "Thank you for fighting for the future of all of our children." She also penned a message for Wangchuk and wrote, "The indefatigable Sonam Wangchuk sir is fighting for your children's future. All my solidarity and gratitude."

About Sonam Wangchuk's hunger strike

The CJP has been holding a protest at Jantar Mantar asking for Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation. The protest was sparked over the alleged irregularities in the NEET examination. Sonam Wangchuk joined the fight on June 28 and has been on an indefinite fast ever since. The association has meanwhile announced a march to Parliament on July 20.

On Monday, writer Arundhati Roy, actors Naseeruddin Shah and Ratna Pathak Shah, filmmaker Sanjay Kak, and others had pleaded the CJP to end the indefinite hunger strike. "We request you to please consider ending this hunger strike immediately in the interests of the longer and more difficult struggle ahead. This battle is a marathon, not a sprint, and we need you, your strength and leadership in the days to come," a portion of their statement read.
