What happens when two very different Hindi films arrive in theatres on the same day? This weekend, audiences have a choice between Meghna Gulzar's serious crime thriller Daayra, starring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran, and Kunal Kemmu's action-comedy Vibe, featuring Preity Zinta and Sparsh Shrivastava.

Vibe gets the early edge at the box office

Both films opened on September 18, but Vibe initially moved ahead at the domestic box office. According to reports citing trade tracker Sacnilk, Vibe collected around Rs 2.50 crore net on day 2, while Daayra was reported at 1.60 crore, depending on the tracker and timing of the update. Vibe reportedly recorded about 19% occupancy across 2,979 shows on day two, while Daayra registered 17% occupancy across 2,061 shows.

Daayra day 2 brings a weekend test

Early Saturday figures suggested that both films were attempting to build momentum. Sacnilk's live data showed Daayra at around Rs 1.60 crore net by the evening of September 19, with final day-two figures still pending.

Vibe was also recording additional business on Saturday, although early numbers varied as collections continued to update.

Two very different films, one crowded weekend

Daayra marks Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran's first big-screen collaboration and is directed by Meghna Gulzar, while Vibe is Kemmu's second directorial venture after Madgaon Express. Cinema Express described Vibe as his follow-up to the 2024 film, which developed a wider audience over its theatrical and later streaming run. The weekend could prove important for both releases. With Saturday and Sunday generally bringing increased theatre footfall, the next round of collections will offer a clearer picture of whether either film can turn its opening into sustained audience interest.
