Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor was recently trolled over a slip of the tongue during a Dussehra celebration in Kolkata while promoting Ramayana. A video of the incident went viral on social media, where the actor was seen talking about the victory of good over evil when he had a slip of tongue. Following the trolling and backlash over his viral slip-up, the actor has now apologised.
The Ramayana team was seen attending a Dussehra celebration in Kolkata on October 20 alongside West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, in Salt Lake City. Ranbir and his co-star Yash were seen addressing the audience members during the event.
Ranbir started his speech with "Jai Shri Ram" before expressing gratitude to the people present. "My greetings. It gives me great pleasure, and it's an honour to celebrate Dussehra with all of you in the holy land of Kolkata. I thank the CM and everyone present here from my heart," he said.
However, the speech turned awkward turn when the actor spoke about the message of Dussehra, saying, "Dussehra reminds us of something beautiful. That no matter how strong evil is, in the end, it is goodness and honesty that perishes." He happened to mistakenly reverse the meaning of what he wanted to convey.
On Wednesday, while attending a promotional event in Chennai, Ranbir addressed the viral moment, admitting that he had made a mistake. He also explained what he had intended to say. "I would like to actually take this opportunity to apologise about an incident that happened yesterday. I was at the Dussehra event and I had a slip of tongue, like a slip of the tongue, they say," the actor said.
He went on to clarify his message about the festival of Dussehra and the victory of good over evil in Hindi saying, "No matter how powerful evil may be, in the end, goodness and truth will prevail."
Ranbir gave his apology a unique twist by referring to his collaboration with AR Rahman on Rockstar to explain how words do not always come out the way one intends. Referring to the film's song, Ranbir said, "So, this reminds me of a collaboration that I had with A.R. Rahman sir and Rockstar - what I want to say is, ‘Jo bhi main kehna chahun, barbaad kare alfaaz mere'. So, I truly apologise for that," attracting loud applause and cheer from the audience.
