Though Rahul Mittra is primarily a producer, his love for films and filmmaking has sometimes led him to find a place in front of the camera too. In today's release Haq, led by Yami Gautam Dhar and Emraan Hashmi, Mittra plays a sessions judge. The actor tells mid-day that he featured in the courtroom drama for one reason alone - director Suparn S Varma. "I was aware of Suparn's body of work. When I heard about the subject and my character of sessions judge RN Tripathi, I immediately said yes. What's great about Suparn is that he is a story writer, screenwriter, director, and creative producer. When a person is donning so many hats, you understand his engagement is on a different level," he shares.

Reportedly inspired by multiple cases, including the landmark Shah Bano case, Haq tells the story of a divorced Muslim woman who takes the legal route when her husband refuses to pay her monthly maintenance. Mittra is evidently impressed by Varma's handling of the sensitive subject, as he says, "Suparn has taken a middle ground over a subject like triple talaq and Hindu-Muslim relations at a time when society can be polarised. He treated the story so sensitively. During these trying times, coming up with a challenging subject like that of Haq and making it so well is remarkable."

Mittra adds that some filmmakers have offered him roles after seeing his work in the movie.
