Amrita Singh was born to Army officer Shivinder Singh Virk and political activist Rukhsana Sultana, a controversial political figure during the Emergency. 

Though Amrita Singh was born into a Sikh-Muslim family, Amrita officially converted to Islam before marrying Saif Ali Khan in 1991.

Their marriage stirred media frenzy not only for the 12-year age gap but also for her complete withdrawal from acting.

Amrita Singh made her debut in 1983 with Betaab and became a sought-after leading actress. At the time for her marriage, she was ruling box office with hits like Betaab, Chameli Ki Shaadi, and Mard.

Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh divorced in 2004 after 13 years of marriage and since then she looks after kids Sara and Ibrahim. They are now carving a niche in the industry.

Sara Ali Khan had opened up about her parents divorce. The actor had said that Amrita and Saif weren't happy together and the best decision at the point was to part ways.
