Shivam works as a loyal, ruthless hitman and right-hand man for the powerful criminal boss named Bharat Malik. He is in love with a girl named Aliyah Hamid, a devout Muslim whom Shivam had once met by chance in the marketplace. Malik treats Shivam like a son, which makes Malik’s biological son Ronnie, Malik's brother Rajan and nephew Munna jealous.

Shivam has deep emotional scars and guilt which he carries after losing his past love, Aaliyah. She is killed by her own father due to their opposing backgrounds.

Malik asks Shivam to spy on his secret mistress, Reema. He orders him to kill her if she is ever disloyal or tries to run away.

Shivam finds out that Reema is trying to flee with her boyfriend Bilal. However, her religious pleas remind him of Aaliyah, which makes him disobey Malik's orders and spare her life.

Reema asks Shivam to collect a taweez she had commissioned from a local maulana since she is unable to enter the holy place. Shivam, who is initially apathetic and entirely disconnected from religion or hope, finds awakening in the sacred item, which reminds him of Aaliyah. A scene in the Awarapan 2 trailer shows Shivam seemingly wearing the taweez around his neck as he seeks revenge.

When Shivam seeks to flee from Malik, he is betrayed by his childhood friend, Kabir. Malik, who is deeply hurt, replaces Shivam with Kabir, and orders Ronnie to torture Shivam.

Shivam faces and kills Malik. Meanwhile, a repentant Kabir sacrifices his life fighting henchmen at the docks so that Reema and Bilal can safely board a ship to Pakistan.

Shivam manages to escape with help from a Buddhist monk he once saved. Upon recovering, he resolves to stop running and instead sacrifice his life to unite Reema and Bilal.

Eventually, Shivam rescues Bilal, tracks down Reema, kills Rajan, and even tricks Munna into revealing Reema's location before killing him.

Shivam eventually dies in a final shootout with Ronnie. At his dying hour, he finds peace by imagining a reunion with Aaliyah.
