L-Still from Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai; R- Vashu Bhagnani

Vashu Bhagnani’s production house, Pooja Entertainment, has filed a Rs 400 crore lawsuit against the makers of David Dhawan's directorial Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai. The dispute revolves around the alleged unauthorized use of the songs Chunnari Chunnari and Ishq Sona Hai from the 1999 film Biwi No. 1

Bhagnani claims that Pooja Entertainment still owns the video rights to the songs, while only audio rights had previously been licensed. The lawsuit reportedly targets Ramesh Taurani, Tips Industries, and filmmaker David Dhawan

Bhagnani has sought a stay on the film’s release, distribution, streaming, and promotional activities until the rights dispute is resolved

He has also reportedly objected to the film’s title, arguing that Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai derives from lyrics of Ishq Sona Hai, a song linked to Biwi No. 1

According to Bhagnani’s legal team, Tips had approached Pooja Entertainment in 2018 seeking video rights, but negotiations allegedly never concluded. Bhagnani claims that any previously granted permissions were later revoked through legal notices

The controversy intensified when the recreated version of Chunnari Chunnari appeared in the film’s promotions featuring Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur, and Pooja Hegde

The makers of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai have rejected the allegations, calling them “baseless” and describing the controversy as a "smear campaign"

Ramesh Taurani has maintained that the issue has been sorted and insisted that the film’s release plans remain unaffected

The legal battle reportedly led to confusion around the film’s trailer launch, which was initially attributed to a technical glitch but was also linked to the ongoing song-rights dispute

Currently, the promotions of the film have taken a hit, but makers have not announced any change in the release date of the film
