The 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival 2026 is all set to begin on May 12 in France and will continue through May 23. The film festival is considered one of the prestigious platforms for filmmakers and producers to present their films and attract global media attention and industry prestige. This year too, apart from the celebrity appearances, the Indian film screenings will also be one of the major parts of the Indian cinema representation at Cannes.

This 1986 Malayalam experimental film directed by John Abraham has been restored in 4K by the Film Heritage Foundation, and is the only Indian feature chosen for the Cannes Classics section.
Spirit Of The Wildflower
This documentary by London-based filmmaker Shrimoyee Chakraborty revolves around the lives of two sisters managing India's first legal mahua distillery.
Balan: The Boy
Director Chidambaram's Malayalam film centres around a young boy fighting for survival against emotional instability and abandonment.
Laalo – Krishna Sada Sahaayate
Laalo will be screened at the Cannes Market during the 79th Cannes Film Festival. Described as the 'Most Divine Blockbuster Gujarati Film Ever', the film features strong cultural and spiritual themes linked to Lord Krishna.
Lakadbaggha 2: The Monkey Business
Sequel to the 2023 film, Lakadbaggha 2: The Monkey Business will also premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. The story follows Kolkata's animal-loving vigilante who travels to the forests of West Java, Indonesia, to dismantle a brutal underground wildlife trafficking network and protect the endangered North Sulawesi Yaki Monkey.
