Kelly Marcel, the British screenwriter charged with translating the bestselling book for the big screen, told Style magazine that the BDSM-obsessed Christian Grey is an "old-fashioned and romantic" hero and the success of the novel was not just down to sex, the Telegraph reported.

Instead, she said that it was the romance of the sado-masochistic tale that appealed to women.
