'Star Wars' actor Kenny Baker passes away

Kenny Baker, who starred in six Star Wars films as well as Time Bandits and Flash Gordon, passed away after a long illness.

Kenny Baker, who starred in six Star Wars films as well as Time Bandits and Flash Gordon, passed away after a long illness. He was 81. At three feet and eight inches, the British actor shot to fame in 1977 when he first played the robot character, R2-D2.

Baker was part of the recent Star Wars film, Star Wars; The Force Awakens as a consultant. He managed to make it to the London premiere, but was too ill to go to Los Angeles, reports a website.

Star Wars creator George Lucas offered condolences, labelling Baker as a "real gentleman" and "an incredible trooper who always worked hard under difficult circumstances".
