The glitterati descended on the crimson rug at the 67th Primetime Emmy Awards in its best bib and tucker. We take a look at those who made the cut and those who didn’t. Plus, highlights from the glitzy night...
Padma Lakshmi, Lady Gaga, Emma Roberts and Heidi Klum
The 67th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday were a kaleidoscopic treat of television glitz, fashion extravagance and glorious firsts with Jon Hamm, Viola Davis and Game of Thrones sweeping most of the top honours.
Sarah Hyland of The Modern Family fame stunned us in an off-shoulder, floor-grazing gown
Apart from the coveted awards, the red carpet was of eye popping and gorgeous couture as well. hitlist gives you a lowdown...
The winners
1. Emma Roberts
There's something about an understated yet elegant look that manages to turn more heads than an in-your-face ensemble. Julia Roberts' niece looked all grown-up and chic, perfectly capturing the vibe of old-school tinseltown glamour immortalised by the likes of Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn.
2. Lady Gaga
No meat or guns hanging off of this gown. It was a simple, tasteful number that Gaga carried off with an air of self-possession. The Bad Romance hitmaker meandered from her usual edgy style and gave us a pleasant surprise by keeping it low-key and managed to look quite lovely too.
3. Sarah Hyland
The Modern Family star wore a rich, wine coloured Zac Posen gown for the Emmys and more than rocked the classy look. While the fitted bodice of the dress complimented Sarah's look, we quite like the dramatic drop down sleeves. She finished the look with her dark blonde curls in a messy shoulder length bob.
4. Padma Lakshmi
The television personality made a stunning appearance in a citrine coloured satin dress and finished the look with ruby lips and diamond danglers. We do wish the plunging neckline wasn't as low cut, but the overall look was quite fetching.
Fashion fail
1. Heidi Klum
This Versace creation looked like a copy of Big Bird's outfit on a bad day. Not even the super hot Klum could make it work. With a sheer mullet hem and a fringed long butterfly sleeve on her right arm, the whole ensemble was just too confusing and ended up looking drab.
2. Julianne Hough
Not everyone can carry off the Goth look with ease, let alone making it work on the red carpet. While the look per se requires some amount of edge, Hough's otherwise all too bubbly and sunny appearances suit her much better.
3. Joanna Newsom
A few minutes into the event and we already had ourselves some fashion buzz, but not in a good way. Host Andy Samberg's wife had us wondering if her gown came with an attached chair - and that's putting it politely.
4. Maggie Gyllenhaal
We give her brownie points for the choice of designer. But even Oscar de la Renta couldn't salvage this crumpled gown worn by The Honourable Woman's star.
