Caleb Flynn, who appeared on American Idol around 13 years ago, has been found guilty of murdering his wife, Ashley Flynn. A jury convicted the 40-year-old on nine charges, including aggravated murder and tampering with evidence. Prosecutors alleged that Flynn shot Ashley while she was asleep and later staged the scene.
Former American Idol contestant Caleb Flynn has been found guilty of murdering his wife, Ashley Flynn, in Ohio. He was then handcuffed and escorted out of the courtroom. A jury found Flynn guilty on all nine charges, including aggravated murder, murder, felony murder, felonious assault, and tampering with evidence. He now faces life in prison without parole, with his sentencing hearing scheduled for October 5.
The verdict marks a dramatic fall for Flynn, who appeared on American Idol around 13 years ago. During his appearance on the show, he had spoken about his love for Ashley, saying, "I love my wife more than anything."
According to prosecutors, Flynn shot Ashley twice in the back of the head while she was asleep at their home in Tipp City, Ohio, on February 16. Prosecutors alleged that he then staged the scene to make it appear that an intruder had entered the house before calling 911.
The weapon used in the shooting has not been recovered. However, authorities said Flynn owned a 9mm handgun that was missing from the console of his truck when officers arrived. Flynn had also claimed that someone entered the house through the garage, but prosecutors said there were no signs of forced entry.
The case also centred on Flynn's relationship with Alleigha Botner, a fellow worship leader at his church. Prosecutors alleged that the two were having an affair and that Flynn wanted to keep Botner while also having his daughters to himself.
Botner, 24, testified for two days about her nearly two-year relationship with Flynn. She told the court that Flynn had expressed thoughts about killing Ashley during their relationship and read aloud messages in which he allegedly spoke about his hatred for his wife and his desire to have her out of his life.
