Marvel fans are getting another chance to experience one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's biggest blockbusters on the big screen. Avengers Endgame: Encore is set to return to Indian cinemas on September 25, and ahead of the re-release, directors Joe and Anthony Russo have made a request to fans to keep the film's new surprises under wraps.
The Russo Brothers, who directed Avengers: Endgame, looked back on the emotional experience of watching the film with audiences when it first hit theatres. Sharing their memories on social media, the filmmakers recalled secretly attending an opening-night screening and watching the crowd react to the film.
"The most emotional night of our careers was sneaking into theatres on opening night of Avengers Endgame," they said. The directors recalled standing at the back of the theatre as audiences reacted with "gasps, the cheers, the tears."
For the filmmakers, the experience carried a personal significance beyond the film's massive success. The Russos recalled being comic-book fans from Cleveland, Ohio, who grew up dreaming of creating stories that could inspire audiences and make them "leap out of their seats with excitement."
The directors revealed that they plan to repeat the experience when Avengers Endgame: Encore reaches theatres. "Just so you know, we'll be sneaking into theatres again," they said, adding that they particularly want to hear the reaction from viewers who may have only experienced the film at home.
"There's a generation that only ever saw this movie in their living room," the filmmakers said. For them, seeing that audience finally experience Endgame in a theatre is part of what makes the re-release special.
However, the Russos also have another reason for asking fans to be careful about what they share online. The Encore version contains additional material, including new surprises connected to the larger MCU. "One last request. There's some new surprises in Avengers Endgame: Encore. Please don't spoil them for everyone else," they appealed. "Give them the same opportunity to discover those surprises that you had."
The re-release is also expected to bring fans back to theatres in premium formats. The film will release across India in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. With the additional footage setting the stage for Avengers: Doomsday, the re-release gives MCU fans another opportunity to revisit the 2019 blockbuster while discovering what has been added this time around.
