Normal
A quiet town. A reluctant sheriff. And a secret that refuses to stay buried.
PVR Inox Pictures brings the genre-bending action drama Normal. It is set to release in cinemas across India on April 17, 2026, bringing together a powerhouse creative team led by director Ben Wheatley and writer Derek Kolstad. Starring Bob Odenkirk alongside Henry Winkler and Lena Headey, Normal reunites the collaborators behind some of the most distinctive action storytelling in recent years, delivering a film that defies easy categorisation.
Set in a seemingly unremarkable Midwestern town, the story follows Ulysses, an interim sheriff sent in for a temporary posting, an assignment that promises distance from his troubled past and a chance at quiet routine. But when a botched bank robbery disrupts the town's calm exterior, Ulysses finds himself drawn into a chain of events that expose something far more dangerous beneath the surface. What begins as a contained incident spirals into a layered mystery, where every answer leads to deeper questions and every face hides intent.
At once an action film, a slow-burning thriller and a modern western, Normal plays with tone and expectation. It embraces the rhythms of classic cinema while pushing into unpredictable territory, allowing tension to build gradually before erupting into moments of sharp, visceral action. The film's world is one where morality is fluid, loyalties are uncertain, and survival depends as much on instinct as it does on strength.
Director Ben Wheatley describes the film as a reimagining of the traditional western dynamic: "When I first read the script, it felt like an inverted High Noon where instead of protecting the town from outside forces, the sheriff is forced to confront the town itself. We wanted to ground the action in reality, using practical elements and a classical visual style, while telling a story that reflects the complexities of the present day."
For Bob Odenkirk, who also serves as producer, the film's strength lies in its layered storytelling: "Normal starts quietly, almost like a mystery, drawing you into the lives of these characters and their tensions. Then it builds, and builds, until everything collides. It's not just about action, it's about the people, the humour, and the unpredictability of what unfolds."
With its richly drawn characters, shifting narrative, and a tone that moves seamlessly between suspense, drama and dark humour, Normal stands apart as a film that is as atmospheric as it is explosive. It is a story about a town that isn't what it seems, and a man forced to confront not just its secrets, but his own.
