Samuel L. Jackson has confirmed that Nick Fury will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but fans will have to wait beyond Avengers: Doomsday to see him back in action. The actor revealed that his next MCU appearance will be in the film that follows Doomsday, Avengers: Secret Wars.
Jackson made the revelation while speaking to The Direct on the red carpet for his upcoming film The Beast. When asked about his next appearance as Nick Fury, the actor simply replied, "Next movie⦠(The) movie after this one."
However, Jackson admitted that Marvel has kept him largely in the dark about what comes next for his character. When asked whether he could share any details, he said, "I have no idea. (Marvel) hasn't told me anything, other than, 'You're not gonna be in this movie. You'll be in the next.'"
Although Jackson did not specifically name Avengers: Secret Wars, his comments point to the film as his next MCU appearance. Avengers: Doomsday is currently scheduled to release on December 18, 2026, while Avengers: Secret Wars is slated for December 17, 2027.
Jackson's absence from Doomsday had already caught attention, particularly because Fury has been a key connecting figure in the MCU since its earliest days. The actor first appeared as the character in the post-credits scene of 2008's Iron Man, when Fury approached Tony Stark about the Avengers Initiative.
Since then, Jackson has appeared across several major MCU films, including Iron Man 2, The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame and Captain Marvel. He also led the Disney plus series Secret Invasion in 2023 and most recently appeared as Fury in The Marvels.
Meanwhile, Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be one of Marvel's biggest ensemble films. Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, Tom Hiddleston, Sebastian Stan, Paul Rudd, Florence Pugh and Pedro Pascal are among the returning stars. The film will also feature actors from the X-Men and Fantastic Four franchises, while Robert Downey Jr. returns to the MCU as villain Victor von Doom.
Doomsday and Secret Wars are being directed by Anthony and Joe Russo as the next two-part Avengers event. While details surrounding Secret Wars remain tightly guarded, Jackson's comments confirm one thing, Nick Fury's MCU story is far from over. Avengers: Doomsday will release on December 18, 2026.
