Actor Tom Holland has revealed that he is looking forward to helping usher in the next generation of Spider-Man characters, saying he would like to play a role in introducing whoever eventually takes over the franchise.

As per Variety, in a recent interview, the actor reflected on the future of the Spider-Man mantle and expressed interest in supporting the next lead, much like Robert Downey Jr helped introduce him to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

"For whoever's next, whether that is a Miles Morales or a Spider-Gwen or a Spider-Woman or something like that, I would love to be a part of setting up the next chapter," Holland said, adding, "Whatever that looks like, I don't know. But if I could do what Downey did for me, then I would be so content swinging off into the sunset," as quoted by Variety.

Holland was referring to Robert Downey Jr's Tony Stark, who introduced Peter Parker into the MCU in 2016's 'Captain America: Civil War'.

The mentor-student relationship continued until Stark's death in 2019's 'Avengers: Endgame'. Downey is set to return to the MCU as the villain Dr Doom in 'Avengers: Doomsday.'

Since making his debut as Spider-Man, Holland has become one of Marvel's biggest stars.

His first standalone outing, 'Spider-Man: Homecoming', earned USD 880 million worldwide in 2017.

The franchise expanded significantly with 'Spider-Man: Far From Home' grossing USD 1.1 billion globally in 2019, followed by 'Spider-Man: No Way Home', which reached USD 1.9 billion worldwide in 2021.

The actor is currently preparing for the release of the next Spider-Man film, 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day', which is scheduled to arrive in theatres on July 31.

In a recent interview, Holland also shared an update on the film's production, revealing that additional scenes were being filmed to further enhance the final cut.

"I can positively say that the stuff we're doing, we don't need," Holland said, adding, "The movie works and sings as it is. We're just adding the icing on the cake in certain areas. We're finding some ways to add a little bit more humour. We're layering in a villain plotline in a new way and some really fun stuff."

With 'Brand New Day' nearing its theatrical release, Holland's comments offer a glimpse into both the future of the Spider-Man franchise and his hopes of helping shape its next chapter.
