Nick Jonas may have built a successful career as a singer and actor, but even the Jonas Brothers star has had his share of auditions that did not exactly go according to plan. The popstar recently revealed that he once auditioned to play Kristoff in Disney's Frozen, only to realise he was woefully unprepared for the opportunity.

During an episode of his Hey Jonas Podcast, Nick was joined by the film's stars Kristen Bell, Josh Gad and Idina Menzel. While chatting with the cast, the singer recalled walking into the audition without knowing what song he was expected to perform.

Nick explained that when the audition panel asked what he planned to sing, he had no answer ready. "I auditioned for Frozen. I went in. For Kristoff. And I went in and they said, okay, what are you gonna be singing today? I said, oh, I don't know," he recalled.

Things became even more awkward when the team asked whether he had brought sheet music. Nick admitted, "I said, no, no one told me I had." With no prepared song, he ended up asking the team to play something from a musical theatre production. The result? Not exactly Broadway-worthy.

"I bombed the audition. It was terrible," Nick confessed. The cast could not resist teasing him about the outcome, joking, "That must have been why you didn't get in."

The role eventually went to Jonathan Groff, whose voice became synonymous with the rugged iceman who joins Anna on her journey.

Despite acknowledging Groff's casting, Nick jokingly suggested that Disney may have missed a trick by passing on him. "I love Jonathan Groff, but I do think it would have been better to cast me," he said.

The singer also made it clear that his argument was firmly tongue-in-cheek. A fan of the franchise, Nick said he genuinely enjoyed the film and revealed that "massive fans" of Frozen live in his household.

Released in 2013, Frozen became one of Disney's biggest animated hits. Directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, the musical fantasy follows Princess Anna as she ventures across the kingdom of Arendelle to find her sister Elsa, whose powers have accidentally plunged the land into eternal winter.

Kristen Bell voices Anna, Idina Menzel plays Elsa, Josh Gad voices Olaf, while Groff lends his voice to Kristoff.
The film's success spawned Frozen Fever, Olaf's Frozen Adventure, Frozen 2 and the upcoming Frozen 3. As for Nick, he may have missed out on Kristoff, but at least his failed audition has now become a pretty entertaining Disney anecdote. Nick Jonas confirms return as Nate Gray in Camp Rock 3.
