A landmark cultural moment took place in Mexico City on May 6, 2026, when global K-pop sensation BTS was officially welcomed at Mexico’s National Palace. Ahead of their sold-out ARIRANG world tour concerts, the seven-member group met Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, marking one of their most high-profile diplomatic appearances since completing military service

On May 9 ahead of their concert, BTS member V took to his Instagram handle to share pictures from their visit to the palace

V shared a couple of candid and informal images from their visit to Mexico for their sold out concert

BTS members—RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook—appeared on the central balcony of the National Palace, creating scenes usually associated with visiting world leaders

Around 50,000 fans, popularly known as ARMY, gathered at the iconic Zócalo, transforming the square into a sea of purple

President Sheinbaum officially honored BTS as “Distinguished Visitors” and presented the group with a commemorative plaque recognizing their global messages of peace, empathy, and inclusivity

BTS’ Mexico visit marks their first trip to the country since 2017, making it one of the most anticipated music events of the year. Their three-night concert series on May 7, 9, and 10 at Estadio GNP Seguros has created a massive economic surge for the capital

The Mexico City Chamber of Commerce estimates the concerts will generate approximately $107.5 million (1.86 billion pesos)

The economic impact is reportedly 83 percent higher than Taylor Swift’s four-show Mexico run in 2023, which generated about $58.8 million

Mexico is currently the world’s fifth-largest K-pop market. BTS holds 8 of the top 10 most-streamed K-pop albums in the country. Mexico City reportedly streams BTS music more than any other city in the world
