Chiranjeevi recently praised Jason Sanjay, son of Tamil superstar Vijay, at an event in Hyderabad. The veteran actor recalled meeting Jason and said the young filmmaker looked exactly like his father did in the 1990s. Chiranjeevi also praised Jason's decision to pursue writing and direction, saying filmmaking runs in his family.
Chiranjeevi graced Sigma's event in Hyderabad and encouraged debut director Jason Sanjay. While addressing the audience, he said, "When Jason came and invited me to this event, I said, you look exactly like your father did in 1993-94-95. Why aren't you acting instead of directing? He said that writing and directing are something he has been interested in for a long time. So, he thought this was what he must pursue."
"I feel that he imbibed qualities from both his grandfather and grandmother. His grandfather directed Chattaniki Kallu Levu (1981) and Devanthakudu (1984), and his grandmother wrote the stories for them," said the actor, referring to his own Telugu films directed by Vijay's dad and written by his mom.
Chiranjeevi also added, "So, he has it in his genes, not from his father, but from his grandparents. We know what great heights his grandfather and father have reached. I hope Jason Sanjay achieves the same with Sigma as he pursues his passion in filmmaking."
A few days back, in an interview with Galatta Plus, Jason Sanjay opened up about whether audiences will see him primarily as Vijay's son, a superstar's son or as a director with an identity of his own. Ahead of his directorial debut Sigma, he admitted he thinks about it "all the time." Jason also opened up about the side of his father, Vijay, that he would like to explore as a filmmaker. For him, it is the actor's sense of humour and his more relaxed personality.
For those unversed, Vijay's personal life has taken centre stage after his wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam, filed for divorce. Sangeetha has accused Vijay of having an extramarital affair. While she did not name anyone in the petition, several reports suggest that the actress referred to in the filing is Trisha Krishnan. The actress was recently seen making public appearances with CM.
After news of trouble in Vijay's marriage surfaced, some social media users claimed that Jason no longer follows his father's Instagram account. Jason Sanjay has reportedly dropped his father Vijay's initial from his name.
