National award-winning actor Dhanush has delayed the release of his upcoming Tamil film Om. Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter) on Wednesday, the actor announced that the film's release date has been pushed to avoid a clash with Jailer 2, which features Tamil cinema legend and megastar Rajinikanth.

Dhanush-starrer OM postponed to avoid Jailer 2 clash

He penned, "In times like these, shifting the release of a film comes with its own set of challenges. Our superstar, Rajinikanth sir, the man whom we have all admired and worshipped over the years, has his film arriving on October 15, just a day before ours. Out of immense respect for him, we have decided to postpone the release of our film, OM, to a later date. At the same time, we will not be arriving for Diwali this year either, as Suriya sir's film has already been announced for the same date."

He further mentioned, "In all fairness, they announced their date first, and we strongly believe that big films should have a mutual understanding and respect each other's decisions, keeping the larger welfare of cinema and the industry in mind. We will announce our new release date very soon."

Dhanush was previously married to Aishwarya Rajinikanth, daughter of the Tamil cinema icon. Hence, his decision to shift the film's release date carries a personal context beyond the professional one.

National Award win

The OM team had a special reason to commemorate in July, with Mammootty, Dhanush, director Rajkumar Periasamy and editor R Kalaivanan marking their National Award victories on the sets of the film.

Mammootty recieved the National Award for Best Actor for his performance in the film Bramayugam. Dhanush earned two honours at the 72nd National Film Awards, one for his directorial venture Raayan, received a Special Mention (Best Actor) for Best Actor for Captain Miller. Meanwhile, Rajkumar Periasamy won the Best Director award for Amaran, while Kalaivanan was honoured in the Best Editing category for the film.
