Kamal Haasan's Raaj Kamal Films International has officially announced the name of Rajinikanth's next. Tentatively titled Thalaivar 173, the film has now been announced as Dharman. The film, directed by Ashwath Marimuthu, will star superstar Rajinikanth in a powerful new avatar. The makers also announced that the film officially commenced production today, along with dropping the first look, giving audiences their first glimpse into the eagerly awaited project.
Kamal Haasan's Raaj Kamal Films International unveiled the first-look poster for Rajinikanth's much-awaited film Dharman - The Deadly Doctor. The poster is minimal yet powerful. The makers chose not to reveal much about the film and focus on Rajinikanth's larger-than-life aura.
It introduces Rajinikanth in a doctor avatar as he is seen holding a scalpel in his blood-stained hands. His smirk, signature sunglasses and the operating theatre backdrop suggest that his character in the film could be carrying both authority and mystery. The doctor angle has given fans something new to look forward to.
Produced by Kamal Haasan and R. Mahendran under the banner of RaajKamal Films International, Dharman also marks Superstar Rajinikanth's first-ever collaboration with the production banner, adding another milestone to the celebrated studio's illustrious legacy.
It is also co-produced by Disney and helmed by Ashwath Marimuthu, promising a compelling cinematic experience backed by a strong creative vision. Joining Rajinikanth on screen are acclaimed actors Simran and Raashii Khanna, who will make up for a stellar ensemble cast.
Adding to the anticipation, the film features music composed by Anirudh Ravichander, whose blockbuster soundtracks and electrifying scores continue to resonate with audiences worldwide. The action sequences of the film will be choreographed by National Award-winning duo Anbariv, who are known for delivering some of Indian cinema's most memorable action spectacles.
Principal photography of the film commenced today in Chennai with the cast, crew, production team and distinguished guests attending the film's inaugural shoot ceremony.
Notably, Dharman has undergone several developments since it was first announced in 2025. The project was initially set to be helmed by Sundar C, and later by Don director Cibi Chakravarthy. However, eventually, Ashwath Marimuthu was brought on board to direct the film.
