Tamil actor Gouri Kishan recently chastised YouTuber Karthik for questioning her weight during a press conference with her co-star Aditya Madhavan and director Abin Hariharan. The actor has now refused to accept the apology, claiming that the encounter was a "misunderstanding."

On Monday, Gouri used her social media accounts, including Instagram and X (previously known as Twitter), to call out the journalist once more. This time, she criticised his apologetic video, claiming it lacked accountability and appeared fake.

"An apology without accountability isn't an apology at all," Gouri commented on social media, replaying the video of the journalist apologising for the question and offering his side of the incident.

Gouri penned, "Especially when it's brushed off with ‘she misunderstood the question - it was just a fun one,' or worse - ‘I didn't body-shame anyone.' Let me be clear. I won't accept performative remorse or hollow words. Do better, RS Karthik." She also shared a screenshot of the same on her Instagram Stories.

On Saturday, the YouTuber apologised, stating that his inquiry had been misunderstood and that he had no intention of hurting Gouri.

All about the controversy

It all started at a press conference for the Tamil flick Others on Thursday. A male journalist confronted her director, Abin Hariharan, and co-star, Aditya Madhavan, about her weight, prompting her to accuse him of misogyny.

At the press conference, Gouri stared at the YouTuber who had raised the question, and asked, "How does my weight bother you in any way. How is it important and related to the film? My weight is entirely up to me; it has nothing to do with my talent. I can only communicate through my films, and I'm working hard. I've chosen characters who are career-driven."

The video of the actor criticising the question went viral on social media, with many people praising Gouri for taking a stand and condemning the YouTuber for their 'sexist' comment.
