Malayalam star Vinayakan has confirmed that he will be a part of Rajinikanth-starrer Jailer 2. The actor had essayed the role of the antagonist in the first part of the Tamil drama directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. Vinayakan is currenty gearing up for the release of the Malayalam film Kalamkaaval where he co-stars with Mammootty.
Vinayakan, during the course of an interview to a media entity, confirmed that he will be seen in Jailer 2 as well. It may be recalled that Vinayakan's performance in the first instalment of the Jailer franchise had come in for widespread praise.
Meanwhile, Rajinikanth on Tuesday returned to Chennai from Goa, where he had been shooting for Jailer 2.
Jailer 2 has triggered huge excitement as sources say Vijay Sethupathi had joined the sets of the film in Goa. Sources had said Vijay Sethupathi's portions were being canned. Mohanlal too is expected to join the sets of the unit soon. Jailer 2 has triggered huge interest, thanks to the phenomenal reach of the first part of the film, which went on to emerge a huge blockbuster, raking in around Rs 650 crores.
The shooting of the second part of Jailer began in Chennai first. Sun Pictures, the production house producing the action entertainer, had announced that shooting for the film had commenced on March 10 this year. Interest in the film peaked when Sun Pictures released an exceptionally interesting teaser that was both funny and thrilling.
Ramya Krishnan plays the character of Vijaya Pandian a.k.a Viji, the wife of Rajinikanth's character Muthuvel Pandian, in the film. Sources say that actress Mirnaa, who plays Swetha Pandian, Rajinikanth's daughter-in-law in the film, too will have a pivotal role in the sequel.
Kannada superstar Dr Shiva Rajkumar and Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, too are expected to be a part of Jailer 2 as well although there has been no official confirmation in this regard.
According to a Hindustan Times report, a reliable source from the production told them, "Vidya Balan plays the role of (actor) Mithun Chakraborty's eldest daughter. Mithun is the leading antagonist in the film and will be seen alongside (actor) Rajinikanth sir." The source further shared.
If the reports are to be believed, it will mark Vidya's full-fledged Tamil debut after a brief appearance in Nerkonda Paarvai (2019). Talking of Jailer 2, the makers of the film directed by Nelson Dilipkumar are reportedly aiming for an August 2026 release. Meanwhile, a representative from the film shared, "It's too early to say anything" about Vidya being a part of the film.
