Amid the ongoing turmoil within the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA), Mammootty has finally reacted to the controversy surrounding the actors' body. Speaking after receiving the Padma Bhushan, the veteran actor urged patience, expressing confidence that the issues would eventually be resolved. His remarks come days after former AMMA president Shwetha Menon resigned and made shocking revelations.
He was interacting with the media after receiving the Padma Bhushan award. When reporters sought his reaction to the ongoing AMMA controversy, Mammootty quipped, "I was wondering why you hadn't asked that yet."
"Let things pan out; a decision will be reached. It's okay," he said. When asked if he meant, "Let's wait and see how it all unfolds," he countered, "We can only see things as they unfold, can't we?" The megastar added, "The next moment is not in our hands, after all. All problems must be resolved, and they will be. These are just small matters, aren't they?"
The first woman president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA), Shwetha Menon, resigned from the post on Sunday along with the other office-bearers following a dispute within the actors' body. The 17-member executive body of AMMA, led by Menon, had assumed office in August last year after the previous committee headed by Malayalam superstar Mohanlal.
As reported by ANI, she further mentioned, "I have also come to believe, as some women stated earlier, that there is an attempt to push the association into the hands of some accused individuals. I am not going to be someone's play doll. And since we did not have any treasurer in our committee, we could not present proper accounts. We pointed out all the mistakes, but the main mistake was from the previous committee, the accounts of which were all wrong. The dealings were in cash, with less white money. This was happening for many months. I am relieved to have come out of the committee."
Shwetha came out to defend her decision to quit the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA), stating that she stepped down out of self-respect and not weakness. Menon also alleged that she had been subjected to sustained character assassination.
