Soundarya Rajinikanth has opened up about growing up in a male-dominated household and how her parents stood by her during one of the toughest phases of her life. Reflecting on her first marriage and divorce, she said the experience did not shake her faith in marriage. She also shared the mantra that works for her second marriage.
In an interview with Nayandeep Rakshit, Soundarya reflected on her childhood and growing up in a male-dominated household. "To be honest, we grew up in a generation where it was probably male-dominated at home. That's the truth. But it's changing. It's changing with my parents now, not earlier. As you grow older, the concept of companionship and love also changes," she said.
Soundarya also recalled the difficult period surrounding her divorce from her first husband, businessman Ashwin Ramkumar. She credited her parents with being her biggest source of support during that time. "For a girl, the first man in her life is her father. And the first friend she has is her mother. And that gets stronger as children grow up. In my difficult times, my parents stood like a rock. I couldn't have done it without them. When my first marriage failed, it did not make me stop believing in the institution of marriage. It was just a wrong relationship. So when I came out of that, I took my time to heal, but I couldn't wait to be back in that institution. Because I believe in it. I'm very happy to be married again," she said.
She shared her mantra for her second marriage with Vishagan Vanangamudi and remarked, "In my marriage, there is a formula we have where we say, you meet me halfway and I will meet you halfway. It is never my way or yours. We live by it."
Soundarya married businessman Ashwin in 2010, and their son, Ved, was born in 2015. The couple separated in 2016. According to statements from Soundarya and Ashwin's lawyers at the time, they parted ways after âmisunderstanding over various issues reached a point of no return.' She then later tied the knot with her now-husband, Vishagan, in 2019. The couple welcomed their son, Veer, in 2022.
Meanwhile, Soundarya's latest production, Love, is currently streaming on Netflix.
