As SS Rajamouli's Varanasi continues to be in production, fans have been eagerly awaiting an update from the makers. Amid the buzz, an alleged glimpse from the sets of the film has sent social media into a frenzy. A picture, which many claim to be from the Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran-starrer, is going viral on the internet.
The now-viral image shows huge structures of what appear to be giant creatures, including a dinosaur, against enormous temples. While many on the internet claim it is from the sets of Varanasi, the authenticity of the photograph remains to be unclear. It is not confirmed or verified if the picture is genuinely from the set or an AI-generated image.
The image seemingly shows an elaborate outdoor set with temple-like structures and two enormous creatures. One of the creatures resembles a dinosaur, which quickly caught the eyes of the netizens, sparking speculation about the scale and setting of Rajamouli's magnum opus.
One netizen expressed shock, saying, "WHAT THE HELL IS SS RAJAMOULI COOKING?! A mysterious glimpse from the #Varanasi outdoor sets is creating MASSIVE buzz! Giant creatures, massive temple structures & a gigantic production scale - this doesn't look like a normal Indian film anymore! Mahesh Babu à SS Rajamouli = SOMETHING EPIC IS COMING! (sic)."
The makers of the film have largely kept details surrounding it under wraps. According to some reports, Varanasi is expected to be an action-adventure film that revolves around a high-stakes time-travel mission involving an asteroid threat to the world. However, there has been no confirmation about the film's storyline yet.
Amid this, the leaked visuals are generating a massive buzz among fans. Earlier, Mahesh Babu's bloodied visuals from the film had leaked online ahead of his birthday.
Varanasi is scheduled to release on April 7, 2027, coinciding with the Gudi Padwa and Ugadi festivals. The project marks a star-studded collaboration between Mahesh Babu, SS Rajamouli, Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran. Notably, Priyanka makes her Indian cinema comeback with the film, playing an action-packed character of Mandakini.
