Actor and politician Rupali Ganguly has weighed in on the ongoing CJP protest at Jantar Mantar, condemning the vandalism reported during the demonstrations and urging students to protest peacefully. However, her statement has sparked a strong backlash online, with several social media users accusing her of overlooking allegations of police action against the protesting students.
The actress, who joined the BJP in 2024, took to X, formerly Twitter, and penned a long note, sharing her opinion on the protests and putting forth the narrative of the protests being hijacked. She wrote, "Those who take the law into their own hands, vandalize public property, and attack the police cannot be called students. Such actions only weaken a legitimate cause. The demand for justice over paper leaks is valid. Students deserve a fair examination system, accountability, and strong safeguards to ensure that such incidents never happen again. In recent paper leak cases, governments and investigating agencies have launched probes, arrested suspects, and initiated legal action against those allegedly involved."
She further mentioned, "At the same time, efforts have been announced to strengthen the examination process and prevent future leaks. Unfortunately, when violence replaces peaceful protest, genuine student concerns risk being overshadowed. If anti-national or politically motivated elements exploit student movements for their own agenda, it harms the very students seeking justice. India stands with its students. India stands with its people. The fight should be for transparency, accountability, and better reforms - not for violence or destruction. To every student and every citizen: protest peacefully, stay united, and do not let anyone hijack your movement or manipulate your emotions for political or ideological agendas. Your future is too important to become someone else's tool. Peaceful, democratic action is the strongest way to bring lasting change."
Rupali Ganguly's statement drew sharp reactions on social media, with many users criticising her remarks and accusing her of ignoring the alleged police action against the protesting students.
One user commented, "Are you blind or what, reality is all over social media, students are protesting peacefully......"
Another wrote, "Godi figure! Did you speak when students died or when paper was leaked? Pls dont give us gyaan! Your tweet is also part of godi toolkit!"
A third user commented, "Same on you... I think you haven't seen videos of students those are brutally assaulted by police. Students didn't do any violence. Delhi police did. Fact check before licking feet."
Another user wrote, "Shame on you can't you see how police is sexually assaulting girls, you can't just blind your eye on that."
One comment read, "You are just like the inhuman police, without a spine and conscience, that were beating the innocent and peaceful kids. Not a single word condemning the attack on students. You proved to be a spineless & blind puppet....stooping so low...."
Another social media user remarked, "If that same case would happened in Anupma, she would be supporting students and protest."
