Actress Chahatt Khanna recently weighed in on actor Rohit Roy's controversial comments about television. The actress stated that she has not watched his entire interview, but she agrees with his views when it comes to the quality, concepts and creativity currently being offered.
While speaking exclusively to IANS, the actress was asked about Rohit Roy's statement, to which she said that she did not want to comment without watching the complete interview. However, she agreed that television does not match films and OTT when it comes to storytelling and creativity.
"I don't know about that statement because I haven't seen the entire interview. But, yes, the quality of work. See, I am from TV and I respect TV medium the most. Because TV makes us actors very strong," Chahatt said.
She went on to point out, "We shoot for 12-15 hours just like that. But that is not the case in films. But in films, creativity is of a different type. In OTT, creativity and detailing is of a different type"
She then elaborated on agreeing with Rohit Roy's larger point, saying, "But when you talk about concept and when you talk about creativity, I think it has been said from that aspect. So, definitely, if you look at the story and creativity, TV is standing nowhere, right?"
Acknowledging the fact that the content on TV is largely driven by what its mass audience wants to consume, she added, "But definitely, it targets the masses. So, the audience wants what the TV is targeting. And that's why they are showing that. It's absolutely business."
For the unversed, during his appearance on the Kindle Cast YouTube channel, Rohit was asked about the hierarchy between television and films and if TV had become more professional.
The actor described television as a "dustbin medium", saying, "This question has been asked of me several times, and I sometimes feel that I shouldn't come across as ungrateful. But television is a dustbin medium. You watch it today; it's like yesterday's newspaper. Tomorrow, you forget about it. So, in India, unfortunately, with the amount of content being created and the same kind of content being created, there's hardly any creativity."
Casting director Mukesh Chhabra reacted to Rohit's remarks later, praising TV actors.
