Every daily soap, when it reaches a plateau, tends to take a time leap in the storyline. However, Hats Off Productions - known for shows like Pushpa Impossible and Wagle Ki Duniya, among others - has never had a leap in their shows before. Both shows have now crossed 1000 episodes.
Pushpa Impossible, starring Karuna Pandey, is now taking a time leap of seven years. Post the jump in time, Pushpa will have completed her law education and become a certified advocate. Producer and director JD Majethia says there will be a systematic shift in the challenges Pushpa faces going forward. "She has wrapped up school and college, and now we move to the next part of her journey. The [previous] stories had been explored extensively. They were restricting us, so we had to explore a new world. The leap was needed to go broader," shares Majethia over a call.
When asked why Pushpa chose to pursue a career in law and not another profession, he says it was to change the perception that law is a "male-dominated profession." "There are many successful women lawyers. But if you see, the perception generally is that it is dominated by men. So, now she's going to take on that world. We wanted to show that no journey is impossible. We wanted to inspire our women audiences and families so that they can support women in their life. Pushpa's ignorance of the law made her suffer a lot, hence law. It's also a way for women to understand their rights," he asserts, adding that the World Cup win this year is a prime example of how women are excelling in a male-dominated field. "They've made us proud, and this will definitely inspire a lot of lives," he smiles.
The plan began three months ago, and with it came its own challenges - from casting, set and costume changes to newer plot twists. Majethia explains that the plot had to feel new and refreshing. "The audience will not accept sudden change unless it excites them more. So, it has to be new and refreshing, yet give them their daily dose of fun. We didn't change the set drastically, but there are some fresh decorations. We didn't want to lose the connection Pushpa had with the chawl, that's why we didn't show a redevelopment or change in her residence. We hope the new casting and storylines resonate with the audience," says Majethia.
