The popular series starring Ishaan Khatter, The Royals, is returning and is currently being shot for its second season. The team is reportedly filming in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. However, the show seems to be facing some hurdles after director Jasmeet K Reen has reportedly walked out of the project.
According to a report by Variety India, director Jasmeet K Reen has left The Royals Season 2 after filming for just three days. The filmmaker, who had earlier worked with Netflix on Darlings starring Alia Bhatt, was brought on board to helm the second season of The Royals. However, things reportedly did not work out.
The report further claimed that the makers had differences over the script and how the show was being executed. According to the report, the cast and crew were filming an important sequence at Suryagarh Hotel in Jaisalmer when differences between Jasmeet and producer Rangita Nandy cropped up.
A Bollywood Hungama report also claimed that Nandy allegedly spoke to Reen over a loudspeaker, which members of the crew were able to hear. The incident reportedly turned "humiliating" after which Reen quit the project.
However, Rangita Pritish Nandy and Reen have clarified with Mumbai Mirror that the rumours are untrue. "Jasmeet has contributed immensely to the project. These rumours are untrue This was a mutual decision between Jasmeet and Pritish Nandy. For now, the production house will continue as planned without Jasmeet," the two said in a joint statement.
Following Reen's exit, the makers have reportedly found a replacement in Mitakshara Kumar, who has stepped in as the director of The Royals Season 2. The filmmaker has previously worked with Sanjay Leela Bhansali as an assistant on films such as Bajirao Mastaani, Padmaavat and Gangubai Kathiawadi. Additionally, Kumar has also helmed episodes of his Netflix series Heeramandi.
Despite the change of director for The Royals Season 2, the shoot reportedly continued without any major delay. "We haven't lost any working hours," a source told Variety India.
Ishaan Khatter and Nora Fatehi will be seen returning for the new season, while Gurfateh Pirzada and Sini Shetty are the new additions to the cast. However, Bhumi Pednekkar, who was seen in the first seaon will not return. The first season featured Sakshi Tanwar, Milind Soman, Vihaan Samat, Dino Morea, Kavya Trehan, Sumukhi Suresh and Adinath Kothare, among others.
