After Kala Ghoda, Bandra, Andheri, Thane and Powai, city dwellers now have the Chembur Festival to look forward to.
Now in its third edition, the festival started on a bigger format this year with the addition of Sports Week (February 6 to 9), where several teams participated in cricket, rink football, and even tug of war matches. Starting tomorrow, the festival, organised by Chembur Citizen's Welfare Association, will kickstart its Cultural Week with a host of fine art and performance art activities.

"Our festival is organised by a group of college students with Suprada Phaterpekar as the secretary of the organisation. This edition will see a host of activities such a Classical music performance by Hema Balasubramanian, who will be accompanied by 100 students, a cultural parade where each group comprising 100 people will be dressed according to a theme and a mini-marathon. There will also be an open area for people to display their art such as paintings, photographs and illustrations. We will also have huge illustrations made by groups from different societies in the locality," says Sanket Tulsankar, a member of the organising committee.

Other highlights of the festival include more than a hundred stalls, a rangoli exhibition based on the themes of architectural marvels of India, a street martial session, choral music workshop, yoga sessions and drawing competitions. Other musical performances at the festival include interactive drum circles, performances by singers Pratyul Joshi, Gajendra Verma, and the band Agnee.

At last year's edition of the festival, the streets of Chembur were lit by lamps to make the area a part of the festivities. This year, the organisers will be distributing the lamps to different societies in order to light up the entire locality.
