Lonely
'Lonely' introduced Akon to the world because till then we hadn't heard a voice like his. Part of his first album 'Trouble' released in 2004, the song features a addictive sample of the 1964 song by Bobby Vinton called 'Mr Lonely'. It was written by Akon, Vinton and Gene Allan

Smack That
While there are many songs that Akon has released over the years, his name became synonymous with the song 'Smack That'. The song only gets better because it also features rap icon Eminem, who also produced the song, while adding a whole new level to the signature sound of Akon. The song was released as a part of his second album 'Konvicted' in 2006

Don't Matter
Another one of his hits from the second album, 'Don't Matter' immediately stuck to fans not only around the world but also in India. Released as the third single, it was also his second No 1 single in the US

Right Now
After two successful albums, Akon released 'Right Now (Na Na Na)' as a part of his lead single from the third album 'Freedom' in 2008. It is known to contain parts of the song 'Remember' by Summer Love

The song, written by Akon and Anthony Lawson, was interestingly influenced quite a bit by Bob Marley, who also received the writing credit. The two songs that influenced the music were the songs 'No Woman No Cry' and 'Zimbabwe'

Chammak Chalo
While there are many songs that Akon has written and sung over the years, 'Chammak Chalo' brought him closer to India than ever before as it was his first ever collaboration with India. The 2011 song was composed by Akon, Giorgio Tuinfort, and Bollywood's favourite duo Vishal-Sheykar, and Gobind Singh, as the soundtrack for the Bollywood film Ra.One released the same year.

The song, which was in film, also featured Shah Rukh Khan and Kareena Kapoor dancing to it, and eventually became a popular dance number
