Joining Def Leppard
Iconic drummer Richard John Cyril Allen, popularly known as Rick Allen, joined Def Leppard in 1978 when he was just 15 years old. He replaced Frank Noon, who was playing sessions with the band after their drummer Tony Kenning left the band

Accident in 1984
In an unfortunate incident on December 31 in 1984, Allen met with an accident when his car was involved in a high-speed collision. Speaking to mid-day in an interview, he also revealed how it flung him out of the car, but his left hand remained in the crashed vehicle

While the arm was initially reattached, it was later amptutated due to infection

Recovery
While many people would think it is the end of their life, Rick may have had doubts himself but recovered after he received support from his close friends, family and fans from all over, and decided to continue playing with the band after trying to recover.

Taking on the challenge, Allen then designed a customised electronic drum kit extra pedals to help him play his best, and that's how he continued to practice for over one and a half year, but over the years has also used partial acoustic drum kits depending on the performance

Comeback
Rick Allen made a successful comeback in August 1986 during the Monsters of Rock festival in the United Kingdom, and even received a standing ovation after he was introduced by Joe Elliott
