La Copa de la Vida (The Cup of Life)
Long before Bad Bunny became popular, Puerto Rican singer-songwriter Ricky Martin gave us one of the most iconic songs in the 1990s called 'La Copa de la Vida' or 'The Cup of Life' that became the anthem for the FIFA World Cup 1998, and has stayed with us since then. 

A peppy song that makes you dance instantly, it certainly became the song of the tournament that took place in France that year. It was even better because the host nation defeated Brazil 3-0 in the final in Paris, making it their first title in the tournament

Waka Waka (This time for Africa)
If there is one song that immortalised FIFA World Cup 2026 anthems, it has to be 'Waka Waka' by Shakira feat. Freshlyground, that has remained with us till today, as it gets played not only during football tournaments but also parties as people dance along to the song.

The song was written by the Colombian singer and American music producer and songwriter John Hill, and features the South African band Freshlyground, for the tournament that took place in South Africa in 2010. 

It was sampled from the 1986 Cameroonian makossa song 'Zamina mina (Zangalewaa), by the group Golden Sounds, and has lived with us since then, and one has to listen to it with the football tournament around the corner

Wavin' Flag 
The World Cup that gave us 'Waka Waka' also gave us 'Wavin' Flag', a song by Somali-Canadian singer K'naan, that was used by Coca Cola as its promotional anthem for the 2010 edition. 

Interestingly, the song was a part of the artist's 2009 album 'Troubadour' and became an instant hit. It was originally written for the people of Somalia and their aspirations, but was also used as a song of hope after the Haiti earthquake. 

Over time, football fans across the world including India keep revisiting it because of its peppy beats

We Are One (Ole Ola) 
After 'Waka Waka', the next one had to be a hit, and while many people said it didn't live up to the expectations, Pitbull gave us another anthem with 'We Are One (Ole Ola)' for the FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil. 

Collaborating with Jennifer Lopez and Claudia Leitte, it continued the tradition of FIFA World Cup anthems that have become iconic since then, and end up being dance numbers at every party. 

The song is part of 'One Love, One Rhythm – The 2014 FIFA World Cup Official Album' and was co-written by Sia, RedOne, Danny Mercer, Dr. Luke, Cirkut, and Thomas Troelsen

'Live it Up' 
While the bar was set really high with the previous ones, 'Live it Up' by Nicky Jam, Will Smith, and Era Istrefi put together this track for the FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia, and is worth a listen, if you are revisiting the FIFA anthems. 

Last but not the least, 'Hayya Hayya' by Trinidad Cardona, Davido, & Aisha for the 2022 edition is definitely worth revisiting because of its unique tunes that are unlike any other before.
